Otley Town Firsts 4 Swillington 1

OTLEY Town maintained their promotion push in the West Yorkshire Association Football League Division Two, after a dominant first half display saw them run out comfortable 4-1 winners over Swillington.

Town started the game in second place, and they got off to the perfect start. There was an early scramble underneath the Swillington bar, which ended with the keeper pushing the ball into the back of his own net.

Town had some fantastic passages of link up play, with only poor decision-making in the final third keeping the score at 1-0.

However, they found a second 25 minutes in when young midfielder Callan Wells steered home a fantastic delivery from full back Jonathan Unwin to double Otley's lead.

Town found a third eight minutes later. Unwin found Otley's playmaker Chris Crellin in the middle of the park and he weighted his pass beautifully to the run of Liam Dixon, who neatly finished over the top of the Swillington keeper.

The score read 3-0 at half-time but the game was far from over.

Otley made a slow start to the second half and they struggled to get into the game. Swillington pulled it back to 3-1 with a thunderbolt strike from 30 yards that left Otley's James Senior helpless in goal.

Otley created more opportunities to regain their three goal cushion but the final ball was lacking.

Striker Luke Stainthorpe took the initiative in the 75th minute though. A fantastic ball from Crellin put him through on goal and he thumped the ball home to make the final score 4-1.

With five league games left, Town are in a good position to secure promotion. They face second-bottom Baildon Trinity Athletic away from home tomorrow night.
