YARNBURY were left to reflect on what have been as they finished third in Yorkshire Division Two and missed out on promotion.

The Horsforth side outscored the visitors five tries to two and gained a bonus point against opponents who have escaped relegation after an upturn in form.

Yarnbury were without centre James White and stand-off Danny Pound so Graham Maycock and Kieran Davies were their respective replacements.

In the pack, Pete Tennant came in at hooker with Tom Warriner lining up in the second row.

The dry conditions prompted a fast-paced game and Yarnbury made the early running.

Thy went ahead when Maycock sliced open the defence before handing on to the supporting full back George Oldridge to score a fine try.

Davies failing with the conversion and when Yarnbury were caught offside, Ed Farmer converted the first of his penalties for Leos.

Both sides attacked with their own ball but without an end product until the best move of the match saw the lively Davies sent skipper captain Jason Avison racing over for a try near the posts. Davies added the conversion for a 12-3 lead.

Leos hit back and good pressure from their forwards saw hooker Mike McDaid ground the ball for a try which Farmer converted.

Yarnbury extended their lead early in the second half when

number eight Jimmy Cryan shot through from close in for an unconverted try.

Farmer responded with a penalty, but nothing was going to stop the Yarnbury pack and hooker Tennant grabbed the bonus-point try which Davies converted.

Leos were not finished and substitute forward James Janvier scored out wide just when Yarnbury thought the game was won.

They did finally put the contest out of their opponents' reach when speedy winger Josh Bateson broke away for the fifth try to seal a good win 29-20 win.
