Old Otliensians 26 Leeds Medics & Dentists 0

AFTER the euphoria of the RFU Vase semi-final win and a rather awkward midweek Aire-Wharfe cup match, Old Otliensians were back to the day job of maintaining their Yorkshire Three promotion challenge.

Three tries and two conversions in the first half without reply meant that the game was secure at the break.

A further try in the second half brought a bonus point while the home defence remained resolute and prevented the Medics & Dentists from scoring.

The Medics ran strongly throughout, but spoilt things by not looking after the ball.

Otliensians found the line through second row Jack Smith on the quarter-hour mark to register a five-point lead

The Medics looked dangerous with ball in hand but made errors in the face of solid Otliensians defending.

On half hour, a dummy and outside break from fly half Will Cooper put centre Olly Eaves over by the posts. Cooper’s conversion gave the board a respectable 12-0 look.

Medics were simply unable to convert territory into points and a high pass which cannoned off their player’s head during a promising move gave the ball to Otliensians.

Swift passing saw centre Luke Cowdell run in a try near the posts which Cooper converted for a 19-0 half-time lead.

The second half was a strange affair. Both teams had plenty of ball, they each tackled resolutely and made similar mistakes.

There were penalties galore and nobody had any points to show for it until the 30th minute, when Otliensians pressure eventually created space for Eaves, who ran hard and timed his pass perfectly for skipper Sam Featherstone to cross unopposed under the posts.

Cooper, who had a good match and posted a very creditable tackle count, added the conversion to complete the scoring.
