Eritrean runner Tsesezeab Woldemichael romped home in Otley Athletic Club’s annual 10-mile road race last Wednesday.

He won by an impressive five minutes and 45 seconds, coming home in 52:05 having led from the outset.

Second place went to Owen Beilby (Wharfedale Harriers) in 57:50 while Tim Midgley (Bingley Harriers) was third with a time of 58:05.

The first local runner was Otley’s Ben Cousen who was 15th in (1:04:56).

Robert De'giovanni was fourth in 58:33 helping to win the team prize for his club, Valley Striders.

First lady home was Karen Pickles (Pudsey Pacers) in 68:42, ahead of Rebecca Cesar de Sa (Skyrac), 70:19, and Sally Malir (Ilkley Harriers), 71:46. Malir was first in the F45 category.

Woldemichael’s time means that the course record set in 1989 of 50:56 by Colin Moore (Bingley Harriers) remains unbroken for another year. The best finisher for Ilkley Harriers was was Rob Cunningham who was 34th.

There were also good run as form Andrew Sheldon, John Coates, Chris Cunningham; and Bernie Gibbons.

Airecentre Pacers had nine runners in the race.

Jason Nicholson led their contingent home in 58th place with a personal best time of 1.13.33.

Rob Grafton (103rd) was the second Pacer home in 1.18.54 while Jenny Beaumont (110th) continued her recent good form.

She also recorded a personal best time of 1.20.18 to be the 15th lady overall which placed her third lady in the under 35 category.

There followed a close pack led by Richard Archer (139th and third over 65) in 1.22.35, Chris Garnett (146th) in 1.23.37, Rhona Neilson (152nd and a personal best) in 1.23.55, Angela Crawford (163rd) in 1.25.00 and Jekaterina Petrova (169th) in 1.26.28. The team was completed by Jackie Glass (188th) in 1.29.29.
