Summary: England’s smallest haul of medals since the Melbourne 2006 Games – although they claimed more golds than at Delhi 2010 – but there was exposure and success for the likes of the netball team, who claimed a memorable title. Gymnast Nile Wilson claimed four gold medals and diver Jack Laugher three.

Scotland

Star: Duncan Scott (swimming)
Summary: Alex Marshall in lawn bowls claimed two medals, including men’s fours gold, to become the Scot with the most Commonwealth titles. Six medals for Duncan Scott, including in the men’s 100m freestyle, saw the swimmer become the Scot with the most medals from one Games. And Grace Reid won a first diving gold for 60 years.

Wales

Star: Alys Thomas (swimming)
Summary: Boxers Sammy Lee and Lauren Price claimed gold, as did cyclist Elinor Barker in the women’s points race, while swimmer Alys Thomas won a shock gold in the women’s 200m butterfly. There was also a Games debut for 11-year-old table tennis player Anna Hursey, surely a name to watch in the future.

Summary: Rhys McClenaghan stunned Olympic champion Max Whitlock to claim Commonwealth gold for Northern Ireland’s only podium-topping performance. There were six silver medallists in boxing in a Games of near misses.
