JOHANNA Jackson's Olympics came to a premature end when she was disqualified shortly before the halfway stage of today's women's 20km walk.

Jackson received two warnings for breaching the walk's strict rules, which require competitors to keep a part of their foot in contact with the ground at all times.

And when the judges felt she trangressed for a third time, she received a red card that resulted in her exclusion from the Olympic competition.

Jackson, who is from New Marske and a member of Redcar Race Walking Club, had been walking for 39 minutes and had completed almost 9km of the race.

She was in the middle of the field, but had been on track for a new personal best before the judges stepped in.
