Menston's Dale Cordingley scored his third class win of the season at a wet Harewood Speed Hillclimb on Sunday in the family’s Radical Prosport race car.

The day started with light rain, resulting in the track being very greasy after the previous day’s vintage car hillclimb.

Precipitation intensified throughout the day, only easing for the final run, so many drivers had ‘moments’ as their cars slipped and skidded on the treacherous track.

After an early excursion in practice on the tricky, wet track, Dale held the lead all day, setting a time some two seconds clear of his nearest rival on the final run.

His daughter Sarah was pushed into third place, even after a storming run in the heavy rain.

The pair used wet tyres all day, although Dale thought that had they taken a chance with slick tyres on the last run they would have secured their third first and second places of the season.

Sarah is racing at the next Harewood Speed Hillclimb on July 4 in the British Championship round, but Dale has decided to sit that one out.

Horsforth & District Motor Club were down in the woods again – this time Swaine Woods – where 47 competitors contested round three of their Summer Series of midweek events.

Rupert North, from Idle, representing Ilkley & District Motor Club, won the fourth round of the Yorkshire League and the first round of the ANCC Car Trial Championship.

Organised by Airedale and Pennine Motor Club and held at Laycock, near Keighley, it attracted 22 entries.

Rupert, in his trusty Mini, dropped 97 marks on a wet day where clerk of the course John Rhodes had his work cut out due to the changing conditions.

Henry Kitching (Corsa), from Baildon, finished second on 114 marks, with Nick Pullan (Suzuki), from Otley, only one mark behind in third. Siôned Kitching won the ladies’ award.

In the Yorkshire League, Ilkley had a resounding win, picking up 201.3 points which takes them back into the lead by 166.8 points from North Humberside Motor Club.

Cookridge contender Lianda Dabill lost any chance of an inter victory in the rain-lashed fourth round of the ACU Ladies’ and Girls’ Trials Championship at Low North Park, Hackness, on Sunday.

She lost her grip on the handlebars in section eight but Silsden sisters Gabby and Danielle Whitham both scored championship points.

Danielle took second place in the Youth Class A age group and rode the full adult trials course.

Gabby finished fourth in Class C with a loss of 119 penalties. Both girls signed off soaked to the skin, but cheerful.

Lianda’s brother James took sixth place on both days of the FIM World Trial at Twin Ring Montegi, Japan on Saturday and Sunday and, appropriately, is ranked sixth in the world series.

Diary Dates Saturday: Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club’s Fourth Novice & Beginners’ Trial, Emmotts, Silsden, 13.00.

Sunday: Ilkley & District Motor Club Classic 100 Run, start Stephen Smith’s Garden Centre, Pool Road, Otley, 10.00; West Leeds Motor Club’s Stan Pitts Trophy Trial, Halton Gill, 11.00.
