Guiseley 1 Kendal Town 1
WATCHED by one of the legend’s of the game - Sir Tom Finney - in a crowd of over 400 an entertaining FA Cup clash between two of the UniBond Premier Division’s top sides ended all square and entailed a re-play on Tuesday night.
Awaiting the winners is a fourth qualifying round tie at Nuneaton Town on October 24.
These well matched teams traded goals and then missed chances late on to seal the win. Guiseley goalkeeper Jon Worsnop was soon in action smothering Alex Taylor’s effort and Warren Beattie then went close for the visitors with a speculative shot.
Kendal opened the scoring on 18 minutes after a home attacking move had broken down. The ball was played forward to Taylor but his shot was parried by Worsnop only for Ryan Salmon to tap the ball home.
The lead lasted just eight minutes as the lively Lee Tuck harassed George Melling and the Kendal defender lost the ball. Tuck slotted it wide of David Newnes.
James Walshaw was a little rusty after over a month out of action due to suspension but he put a glancing header just the wrong side of the post before the break.
In a tight second-half Walshaw and Liam Needham executed exquisite touches but Steve Burton and Tuck were unable to apply the finishing touch.
Danny Wisdom shot just wide at the other end and Worsnop pulled off a superb reflex save from an effort from Salmon.
Walshaw again went close and then beat Newnes to a ball on the right flank and played an inviting ball across the six yard box but there were no taketrs.
