GUISELEY slipped to a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Worksop Town following a fiercely competitive match, writes David Bridson.

Town won the game via Vaughan Redford’s powerful header in the 81st minute. The winner followed Lions midfielder Adriano Moke’s dismissal for a second bookable offence after a melee in the 66th minute.

Worksop initially took the lead via Daniel Bramall’s smart shot into the bottom left corner deep into first half stoppage time.

Guiseley’s Leo Farrell smashed home an equaliser from the edge of the box in the 48th minute as the home side pressed to extend their long unbeaten run.

A foul challenge in the box by former Guiseley defender Regan Hutchinson on Will Longbottom gave the striker the chance to score from the spot but he was denied by Sebastian Malkowski’s decent hand away.

The home side began brightly by forcing Malkowski into a splendid save from Farrell in the fifth minute.

Moke’s first booking came in the 19th minute following a scuffle between both sides as the game threatened to spiral out of control after several strong tackles in the early stages.

Lebrun Mbeka was booked for the initial foul before Joe Ackroyd found his way into the referee’s notebook just two minutes later.

The tricky Bramall made space to curl an effort just wide of the post following Luke Hall’s pass in the 26th minute.

Farrell’s attempt from outside the box was well blocked in the 38th minute prior to Jake Lawlor reacting brilliantly to a loose ball to prevent a Worksop attack in the 41st minute.

Markowski dived well to palm Ackroyd’s shot out in the 54th minute before Town made multiple substitutions five minutes later in a bid to win.

The reliable Markowski got in front of Guiseley attackers to catch Longbottom’s ferocious cross in the 62nd minute. Hutchinson’s powerful effort was well blocked shortly after the penalty miss.

Markowski’s impressive slide tackle outside of his area stopped a Lucas Odunston chase shortly before Town’s winner.

Guiseley are in FA Cup Third Round Qualifying action next against National League North side Scunthorpe United at Nethermoor on Saturday 28 September with a 3pm kick-off.
