OTLEY completed their pre-season campaign in resounding fashion having secured three wins out of a possible three.
Their first win was against Leeds Tykes on August 10 at Cross Green, when they beat their local rivals 21-7 with tries coming from Will Derry, Callum Irvine and Ben Waddington. Joe Rowntree was on song with the boot.
For the second outing Otley went to Scarborough, a team they haven’t played in more than 50 years, on August 16.
The score was 59-19 in favour of the Cross Greeners with tries coming from Harvey Sellers, Ollie Mcnab, Nick Fontaine, Tom Parnell, Jacob Holmes, Will Martindale, Elliott Piers and Eddie Crossland. Mcnab got six conversions and Rowntree the seventh.
Their final pre-season match was on August 22 away at Sandal RUFC, with Otley running out winners 75-14 winners.
George Bowen opened the scoring and during the match got another two tries, Eddie Crossland got two tries and one conversion. The other tries came from Will Derry, Harvey Sellers, Ben Waddington with Joe Rowntree adding six conversions along the way. There was a penalty try for Otley right at the end.
In a reverse of last season’s opening game, instead of hosting Hull RUFC they go Chanterlands Avenue in Hull on September 7 for their opening game of the season.
The following weekend they host Leeds Tykes, with both games kicking off at 3pm.
Otley, after a hit and miss campaign last time around, will be hoping to get off to a fast start along with the rest of the teams in the division.
