RAWDON’S Paul Nutton wants to broaden his horizons next winter.

With the Yorkshire Points Series men’s veteran 50s title under his belt for 2022-23, the Shibden Cycling member would like to test himself more nationally in 2023-24.

After receiving his prize at the Yorkshire Cyclo-Cross Association’s annual dinner and prize presentation at Shipley Golf Club, Nutton said: “I had a great Yorkshire season, having come third the season before.

“At the start of the winter I just thought ‘let’s do some cyclo-cross’ but I had a good result at Hunsworth in round one so thought ‘let’s see where it goes from here’.

“I surpassed my expectations as I was thinking maybe top five overall but Ian Taylor didn’t have a good season.

“Hopefully I will finish in the top three overall next winter but I will do the National Trophy again and hopefully finish in the top ten and get a podium if I can and also see if I can get in the top ten in the National Championships.”

Nutton won three rounds of the eight-race Yorkshire series – at Temple Newsam (Leeds), Graves Park (Sheffield) and Tong (Bradford) – and was runner-up at Hunsworth (Cleckheaton) and Wakefield.

Mike Burdon (Shibden Cycling Club), of Burley-in-Wharfedale, was third overall and was runner-up at Pontefract Racecourse.

Burley compatriot Alison Kinloch, who organised the prize presentation, won the women’s 40 category in the Yorkshire Points Series, winning all six rounds that she competed in for a perfect score of 500.

Kinloch, also of Shibden Cycling Club, won at Hunsworth, Myrtle Park (Bingley), Temple Newsam, Pontefract, Sheffield and Tong.
