THE last match for Otliensians this season was a friendly against touring side London Saracens *Amateur RUFC.

Ex Leeds Uni student, Steve Waide, was a much welcomed regular at Otliensians between 2012 and 2016. Former coach, John Walker, would diligently collect Waide every Saturday morning, along with a handful of other willing students but he sadly moved back down south following his graduation, to rejoin his home side, Saracens Amateurs.

With financial backing, Saracens were able to recruit the likes of Michael Lynagh, Philippe Sella and Francois Pienaar. Consequently they outgrew their historic home and moved to share a ground with Watford AFC. Those that didn’t make the cut, stayed at Bramley Road, and rightly so, continued to play under the historic name of Saracens, albeit with the caveat of ‘amateur’. Ensians did manage to defeat the tourist in the dying moments of the game, claiming their first victory- the score ending 66-62.
