THE penultimate game of the season saw ‘Ensians' face Hemsworth at home.

The welcome return of Sam Featherstone and Luke Cowdell, gave a glimmer of hope to the home supporters; still chasing the elusive first win of the season.

Both teams were well matched and the first half saw only five points on the score board, courtesy of Hemsworth’s elusive full back.

Early in to the second half Ensians determination started to pay off, and after several sorties, the home team pushed back into the Hemsworth half.

The ball spun wide by Will Cooper to winger Connor Bateman, who beat his opposite man to score in the corner. Sadly the conversion too far for the boot of fly half Harry Bentley.

From the restart Ensians were fired up and started to take risks.

Hemsworth centre took advantage of this ‘loose’ play and intercepted a long pass destined for the outside centre.

Unopposed, he sailed over under the posts, increasing their lead to 12-5.

A penalty, minutes later, increased their lead to 15-5.

Undaunted by the ten point deficit Otliensians spirit shone through in the last 20 minutes, and in an almost carbon copy of their previous try, right wing Charlie Tucker cut across the pitch and scored in the left corner.

Again the conversion too testing with the swirling wind.

Moments after the failed conversion, and with only minutes to go, Tucker barged his way over for his second try, to level the scores at 15-15.

Sadly the wind didn’t abate, and the extra two points were not to be.

Ensians shear desperation to win probably cost them the game, but all in all a draw was a fair result.

They can be with their weekend's work.
