BURLEY Trojans, Queensbury Celtic and Farsley Celtic Women’s new reserves set-up were playing their first games of the season.

Trojans’ Heather Fisher-Pedley and Jodie Kay were on target but they lost 3–2 to a strong Farsley Junior Ladies XI.

Queensbury were involved in an end-to-end thriller, away to a Huddersfield Amateur XI.

Last season’s top-scorer Katie Waters equalised twice, with Jess Maurice’ left foot also providing an equaliser. But Amateur top-scorer Courtney White’s great solo effort made it 4–3 to the hosts in the end.

Farsley Celtic Reserves were away to Wakefield Trinity U23. The Celts started the better of the two teams, but Trinity found their rhythm to win 3–0.

Leeds United are the first winners of the Julie Chipchase Memorial Trophy, after Laura Bartup and Holly Orr’s second-half goals against Doncaster Belles.

The game was preceded by a minute’s applause to celebrate the life of the inspirational women’s football pioneer.

Skipton Town put in a strong performance at Ilkley to win 5–2.

Neve Tennant and Shareen Munir scored for Ilkley Town, and Skipton’s scorers were Beth Bancroft, Corina Riley and Harriet Brewer, with two from Jade Foster.

Elsewhere, Brighouse Sports took on a tough Huddersfield Amateur side, but Lyndsey Hopton and Emily Holroyd put them 2–0 up at half-time.

In an even second half, Huddersfield’s Jordyn Chasiak-Pratt beat the offside trap to pull one back, but Hopton’s header restored the two-goal advantage, and Sports’ goalkeeper made a fabulous save to keep the score at 3–1.

Farsley Celtic Women were away to Leeds United. Goalkeeper Leigh Bamford saved a Sarah Danby penalty, but United’s superb attacking display resulted in a 13–0 victory.

Tomorrow, Bradford (Park Avenue) Development play Leeds City at Hollingwood Lane.

On Sunday, Avenue Development’s two sides are due to play Ripon City and Thackley Reserves at the same venue.

In some of the other games at the weekend, Burley welcome Leeds City to York Street, Ilkley entertain Farsley Celtic, and Queensbury host York RI.
