THIS weekend sees most women’s teams starting their season proper, but there were plenty of friendlies over the last few days to get them prepared.

Bradford City took on Sheffield United’s second string. Both had few chances, before Keegan Lambert (pictured above) secured a 1-0 win for City.

The Bantams’ reserves were 3-1 down at Morley but came away with a creditable 4-4 draw, thanks to Amelia White (2), Alicia Smith and Jess Dunlop.

Bradford City’s youngsters were involved in a weekend of finals, as they wound up the previous season.

An injury-ravaged under-18s side, who played most of their Shield final with nine men, had a narrow 2-1 loss to York R.I., with the under-16s giving their all before losing 5-1 to Brighouse Alpha.

However, three age groups were more successful in their efforts.

City’s U15s scored some fantastic goals in their Shield final, a 6-1 win against Wigton Moor Wolves, the U14s played some brilliant passing football in their 5-2 cup final victory over Horsforth SM Kicks, and the U12s’ dominant performance saw off Wigton Moor 5-0.

Elsewhere, Bradford (Park Avenue) came back to win 4-2 away to Nelson, as they proudly wore their new kit in their last game before Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Ossett United at Horsfall.

The friendly saw a lively start from both teams but the hosts were 2-0 up at half-time.

The second half saw Bradford create several good chances, with good play from captain Jade Nelson, winger Nat Bell and man-of-the-match Emily McNulty.

Millie West scored directly from a corner, then her second saw the visitors level.

Soon Avenue were in front through Kirsty Russell-Holt, with West’s 25-yard strike completing her hat-trick just before the end.

Brighouse Town edged a duel in the sun 2-1 against Hull City.

An Amy Woodruff penalty separated the teams at half-time. The Tigresses equalised through Rebecca Beech, before Ellie White put away the winner.

Ilkley Town and Leeds City shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the MPM Stadium, after Becky Gill and Heather Pedley had put Town 2-1 up.
