ECCLESHILL United won their first friendly of the season, edging out visitors Steeton 3-2 in what proved to be a competitive clash.
Steeton fought hard against their higher-tier opponents, but goals from Ben Clarkson and Immanuel Kinuthia were not enough to stave off defeat.
After the match, Steeton admitted it was Eccleshill's fitness which proved the decisive factor.
If you thought that was exciting, Campion won an absolutely thrilling clash 6-4 at home to Beeston St Anthony's.
Though Campion are in a higher tier, Beeston are arguably the stand out team in the West Yorkshire League, so it was always likely to be a close encounter.
And Brighouse have been making positive noises throughout pre-season, and they started with a bang, beating Sheffield FC 5-0.
All five goals came in the second half, with a hat-trick from Jack Boyle, who joined the club from Thackley in January, one for a trialist striker, plus another for summer signing Eli Hey.
