THERE was cause for celebration at Bradford City's Valley Parade last Thursday during the 2020 Bradford Sports Awards, especially for a pair of young stars from the district.

Ilkley Harriers' teenage triathlete talent Dominic Coy picked up the first award of the night, claiming the Young Male Sportsperson of the Year award.

And then it was the turn of Addingham swimmer Hermione Roe, who scooped the Young Female Sportsperson of the Year prize.

Both had a fantastic year in their respective disciplines in 2019.

Coy was crowned world champion in the Under-20's category at the Grand Final of the Age-Group Sprint Triathlon World Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland, last August.

In a thrilling finish, he crossed the line four seconds ahead of Mexico's Cesar Humberto Mancilla González, to become the youngest gold medal winner for Great Britain at the event.

Coy also smashed the course record by nearly a minute at the Ilkley Triathlon the following month.

Meanwhile, Roe won double gold to be crowned champion at the 2019 British Swimming Championships in Glasgow, also held last August.

Roe won the women's 13/14 category in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 33.75 and the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:12.84.
