STORM Ciara was no match for the steely determination of 10 Airecentre Pacers runners set out to tackle race four of the five race PECO Cross Country series on Sunday.

This weekend's race was staged at West Park, Leeds, and hosted by Horsforth Harriers, who provided the unfortunate race marshals standing in the teeth of the gale and rain.

As can be imagined, the race produced a much reduced field of 448 and an opportunity to catch up on some of the opposition teams.

The race course itself was also truncated by a mile to steer away from the wooded sections due to falling branches, but the remaining boggy fields provided more than enough challenge in the monsoon conditions.

Pacers Richard Walker (31.05), Simon Molyneaux (35.06), Robert Dawrant (35.59), Francesca Gatenby (36.03), Liam Oliver (38.33), Chris Hill (39.27), Faye Cameron (39.41), Carly Dykes (45.28), Simon Walker (48.59) and Carole Keighley (49.36) all completed the toughest race to date.

Honourable mention must also be made of Pacer juniors Evie and Monty Walker, who tackled the one mile under-11’s race in 7.23 and 7.59, respectively.

Finally, in conditions far removed from Yorkshire winter weather, Margaret Britton raced the Torremolinos Half Marathon last weekend in 24c sunshine and had to contend with a 7k hilly finish, recording a great time of 1:54.37.
