GUISELEY banked a hard earned point from a tough away day but it did neither them nor hosts Brackley Town any favours as they both lost ground in the Vanarama National North table.

It was a goalless stalemate at St James Park and in truth the game lacked the quality you would expect from a clash of promotion rivals but the Lions held out against the Saints despite being reduced to ten men late on.

Guiseley’s leading scorer Aaron Martin had picked up a yellow card for a late challenge in the 18th minute and nine minutes from time he was guilty of another poor challenge and the second yellow card led to his dismissal.

The Lions drop out of the play-off places and down to ninth while Brackley slipped from third to fourth place.

Guiseley’s joint manager Marcus Bignot said: “Brackley are a top team with a really good home record so if you had said before the game that we could go there, keep a clean sheet and be down to ten men, we would have taken a point.

“We can be pleased overall but it was a disappointing dressing room – which is pleasing because it shows that the players always want to win.”
