Otley 14

Hinckley 19

OTLEY scored a late try to earn a bonus point in a game at Cross Green where they battled Hinckley throughout.

Hinckley’s first attack faltered when they knocked on just short of the line.

However, Chris Vowles charged down the clearance kick after the scrum and went on to score, Joe Wilson adding the conversion.

Hinckley had two further chances to score, but close to the line were bundled into touch and then were caught offside.

They then kicked the ball out on the full, and after the scrum Elliot Morgan broke through from 30 yards to score. Ben Smith’s conversion levelled things up.

Brett Mitchell and Adam Malthouse combined well to charge through the visitor’s defence, although a subsequent penalty came to nothing.

Alex Beaumont’s tackle saved another try when he bundled Scott Hamilton into touch.

After another Hornets’ attack, they were held up over the line. From the scrum, Hinckley moved the ball wide to Scott Hamilton who scored.

A bout of Otley pressure at the end of the half brought a penalty, but it hit the bar.

Otley restarted and had the better of the third quarter, and Marco Dallavalle had an impact on his debut.

On the hour an Otley penalty brought them back into their own half, and from the line-out swift movement by the Hinckley backs took the ball to the other side and replacement Luke Coltman forced his way over.

Further pressure by Otley saw a sequence of five penalties in Hinckley’s 22, Coltman being shown a yellow card after the fourth. However, Otley lost possession.

With seconds left, Hinckley played their way out of their 22 in an attempt to get a fourth try but then lost the ball, Dallavalle setting up Henry Roberts to score.
