SKYRAC AC’s Abdimajiid Darood is a under-15 boys’ Yorkshire champion after a superb victory at the Yorkshire County Athletics Association Cross Country Championships at Lightwater Valley near Ripon.

On a fast and dry course Darood pipped Keighley and Craven’s Samuel Headley and Barnsley AC’s Sonny Boy Hughes for the title, winning a coveted Yorkshire vest and the chance to represent Yorkshire at the UK Inter-County championships.

Also bringing back a Yorkshire vest and a place at the Inter-County championships – which only gets awarded to the first eight finishers in each category – was Skyrac’s Charlotte Rawstron, who finished fifth in the under-15 girls’ race.

In the senior races, Amy Hartley was the first Skyrac runner home for the women in 74th place.

Chris Thornton was Skyrac’s first man, finishing just inside the top 50 in a time of 34.59.

The senior men’s team also finished a very respectable 14th place out of 37 teams.
