BEN Rhydding Ladies opened their National League Division One (North) campaign with a 2-1 home win against Belper.

Freya Bellamy earned her promotion from the second team in an exciting game for the large crowd while there were also debuts for new recruits Minnie Pollock, Abbie Allan and Issy Chamberlain.

Ben Rhydding's goals came late in the first half with newly appointed captain, Sophie Davies, sending a cross on to Beth Cordukes' stick for a deflection into the far corner of the net.

The second came from a penalty corner with Davies getting the deflection to put Rhydding 2-0 up at the break.

In the last ten minutes when two Rhydding players had been sent to the sin bin, Belper managed a goal.

* The Ben Rhydding men bagged a welcome three points in a 3-2 home win against Lindum.

Slicing through Lindum with some astonishing long balls, Rhydding found themselves through on goal several times in the first ten minutes but were unable to convert.

Lindum’s Matt Bell broke the deadlock by scoring a remarkable goal to give them the lead.

The home team stepped up a gear, Charlie Smith’s speed in the press causing errors for Lindum and Max Helme slipping the ball to Ross McMillan, who smashed in an equaliser.

Rhydding’s superior fitness began to grind Lindum down in the second half and some dynamic counter attacking drew a second goal for them; Callum Franks floating the ball through for Smith to pop it away and make it 2-1.

Franks then scored a stunning corner to make it 3-1 and victory looked certain for Rhydding.

Some naïve defending allowed Lindum back into the game when they scored a corner but Rhydding held on for the win.
