MISTAKES cost Pool three points in a 5-3 defeat at Wetherby Athletic on Saturday.
With the wind at their backs, a break down the middle culminated in a long distance effort by Wetherby caught keeper Andy Doey off his line, and the ball flew into the net. Their second was an unchallenged header, this time, Doey had no chance.
Harry Higgins pulled one back for Pool, getting onto the end of a Scott Firth cross following a fine move down the left.
Pool were then unlucky to hit the post before Wetherby reclaimed their two-goal advantage, Doey being robbed of the ball close to his near post, the Wetherby forward finishing well from an awkward angle. They then made it four, as another break down the middle did the damage.
With half-time looming, Scott Firth put Pool back into the match with a perfect left foot free-kick that curled into the top corner.
Wetherby added a fifth immediately after half-time, and for the next half hour Pool played the best football of the match. But despite their onslaught on goal, hitting the woodwork twice more, they scored one goal courtesy of Harvey Atkinson.
* Pool Reserves lost 5-1 to a strong Kirk Deighton Reserves side. Sam Dockray scored a consolation goal for Pool.
