ONE of the early successes of the season for Otley Golf Club in the Harrogate and District Union of Golf Club 8-15 League revolved around the partnership of Alex Calder and his grandson, Alex Calder Jnr, who secured victories in both of the first two matches.

Alex Snr said that Alex Jnr has benefitted from his own greater experience and tuition in both golf and language.

In more modest fashion, Alex Jnr, says he has enjoyed the experience of playing, as the only member from the Otley Golf Club Juniors Section, with his grandad against the men in the HDUGC 8-15 League.

* Another busy weekend at Otley Golf Club saw the Invitation Am-Am played on the Saturday, followed by the Mixed Open on Sunday.

Graeme Firth and Adrian Thompson were the members of the winning team in the Am-Am with a score of 123.

Morag Wilkinson and Ritsuko Corless were the comfortable winners of the Ladies Foursomes.

Their 41 points was six more than managed by Sue Ridyard and Pat Harrison who edged out Janet Ellison and Liz Tolchard to secure the runners-up berth on a countback.
