BURLEY Trojans Juniors Under-18s squad celebrated the end of a successful season and 12 years of junior football with a presentation evening at Burley Cricket Club.
The majority of this year's squad of 18 players joined the club from one of the two Burley primary schools in 2007 and have played together ever since.
Several of the boys represented Bradford Schools during their junior careers and Tom Archer moved on to u21s and open age football with Ilkley Town.
This season the team finished third in the competitive Harrogate and District u18s A League, winning nine of their 14 league games, scoring 58 goals and enjoying an unbeaten run from October through to February.
Andy Haigh, manager for the 2018-19 season, paid tribute to the commitment of his players who performed well against much bigger and better resourced clubs reaching the semifinals of the Styan Cup only to lose out to rivals, and class-mates, Ilkley Town. Matthew Spencer received the manager's award, Sam Barker was voted player's player by his team-mates.
Sportsman of the season went to Ollie Gunn, who played for every minute of every game of the season, and Tom Schofield an u17s player who only joined the squad this season and established his position in midfield.
Max Turner won the Golden Boot with 11 goals, including a hat-trick, but Charlie Houlders and Adam Shaw were close behind with 10 each showing the strength of the attack.
