OTLEY member Phil Tomkinson has won the prestigious Hawksworth Trophy for the second time.

Tomkinson, who lifted the silverware back in 2014, carded rounds of 66 and 72 at Bradford Golf Club to win by three shots on four under par.

The Hawksworth Trophy is one of the 17 major amateur competitions played throughout the season which together form the Yorkshire Order of Merit.

He pipped runner-up Dan Thomas, of Shipley, who posted 72, 69.

The victory left Tomkinson, who is also attached to Moortown, third in the Merit table ahead of the Seaton Salver event held the day after, which was won by Malton & Norton's David Hague.

The Otley ace also impressed in the Sir Norman Rae Classic at Northcliffe, finishing sixth in the event won by Thomas, a victory which put him top of the Merit list.

Meanwhile, Terry Rockett and Tony Windle were the comfortable winners of the qualifying round of the Otley Foursomes. The first three qualifying pairs were: T Rockett & T Windle 66.5; M Batty & J Bullock 71.5; A Clarke & T Harrison 72.0.

Count-backs were required to establish the finishing positions in the first division of the Ladies’ Stableford, after the top three all finished with 33 points.

Results: Div One: J Ettenfield 33; J Howson 33; T Batty 33. Div Two: K Parker 37; I Denmark 33; J Smith 32; Div Three: H Grantham 37; F Power 36; A Bearpark 35; Div Four: C Hardaker 45; R Edwards 38

The nine-hole Individual Stableford was won by Pam Joule with 15 points.
