A WEEK after finishing 99th in the London Marathon, Otley AC's Scott Harrington travelled to Newport in Wales to take part in the Newport Marathon.

Harrington finished in second place with a time of 2:33:33, which was behind Chris Bird of Chichester, who won in a time of 2:31:34.

The day before a number of Otley runners competed in the local Up The Odda race.

A lovely scenic two-lap route takes runners from Hawksworth down through the woods at High Royds, up the Odda and repeat.

There’s also the option for a 5k duo race with Caron Ralph/ Hayley Galvin, and James Rawstron/Carmel Gallagher representing Otley.

Richard Smith led Otley from the start and finished in seventh position overall in an amazing time of 41:40.

First male place went to Nathan Edmondson from Ilkley Harriers in 37:20 and first female was Helen Smith Ribble Valley Harriers in 42:05.

Other results for Otley were Graham Lake 46:01, Chris Chamber 46:12, Andrew Webster 52:21, Nicola Lee 57:25, Sara Richard 64:25, Joanna Hobson 66:10, John Davis 68:00.

In the duo, Ralph and Galvin were third ladies team in a time of 56:34 and Rawstron and Gallagher finished in 54:51.

On Thursday a small group ran the Dick Hudson's Fell Race which goes from Ilkley over the moor to Dick Hudson's pub and back. A small number at the front of the field mistakenly followed a runner not in the race and ended up running an 1.5 miles!
