ILKLEY Cycling Club's second category racer Tom Garnett scored his first ranking points of the season with a fine fifth place finish in the Elite/1/2/3 race at Colne, which was the first race in the CDPP race series 2019.

This is all the more impressive as Garnett’s speciality is hills, but this race was held on the flat and twisty Steven Burke Circuit.

Michael Strange also represented Ilkley Cycling Club in this race, but he was off the pace racing here against higher level riders.

But he has been training well and should soon be able to step up to this level.

Meanwhile after a very strong run of events , Under-14 racer Alex Beldon has been signed up by the PH-MAS Racing Team.

In his first outing as a PH-MAS rider, Beldon travelled to race at the Prissick circuit at Middlesborough to score a win for his new team.

In time trialling, Tom Asher and Nina Benson both raced at the Vive Le Velo 25mile event near Bridlington, where they had to battle a stiff wind along with a rolling course.

Benson came away with second placed female with a time of one hours, 18 minutes and 24 seconds.

Whilst Asher came within seconds of achieving an average speed in excess of 25 miles an hour with a time of one hour and 16 seconds.
