IN the lead up to Easter, Ilkley Cycling Club's Camilla Boyton rode the Bronte Wheelers evening time trial and recorded 37 minutes 9 seconds on the tough 12-mile Skipton-Bolton Abbey-Skipton course.

On the same evening over at Preston, Jim Adamson finished in sixth place in the Glasdon circuit race, giving Adamson points as he moves back towards regaining his second category status.

Alex Beldon continued his run of fine form with another category victory in the City RC Good Friday 10m time trial.

He recorded a rapid 22 minutes 48 seconds on the Newport to Howden road and was again backed up by Joe Turnbull with 26:22.

On Easter Saturday, the Brownlee race circuit hosted the Derek Smith Memorial veterans races.

Three races split into age categories were held in the best weather that this regular April fixture has enjoyed.

The 65+ age category had no Ilkley CC riders, which is a pity as the race was part of the national over 65s season long series.

In the 55-64 age race, Neil Rollins was active from the start and was involved in a race long breakaway.

He was third in the sprint for the line, which gave him second place in the 55-59 age group.

David Leckenby followed him in for seventh and fourth in his age category.

Ged Millward rode the 40-54 age category, which was won in a late solo attack by 41-year-old Simon Mayfield of Sowerby Brothers Race Team.

Millward, 54, took the bunch sprint in a photo finish for second place, giving him first in the 50-54 age category.
