YEADON-based Green Lane Cricket Club has been busy in the past couple of years rebuilding its junior section.

The club, who have a ground in Nunroyd Park, is encouraging both girls and boys into starting a new sport.

With more girls joining the club, they are able to field mixed teams each week in their matches in the Aire-Wharfe League.

This year they have secured sponsorship for both their under-9s and under-11s teams.

Estate agents Manning Stainton are sponsoring the under-9s while the boys and girls in the under-11s will be wearing shirts sponsored by White Cross Vets of Guiseley.

This season for the first time they are adding All Stars Cricket to their busy schedule. The tournament is targeted at boys and girls aged five to eight years and this year is themed around the Cricket World Cup.

Under-11s coach Rachel Lewis aid: "I first got involved in Green Lane a couple of years ago when my daughter wanted to play cricket. She was interested because her big brother played and she went to matches to watch him. I couldn’t help noticing there wasn't a young junior section and there definitely weren't any girls playing at the club. I realised for more girls to be involved a female coach was required, so I took the matter in hand and got involved obtaining ECB coaching qualifications in May 2017. I am now in my second season coaching the under-11s.
