ONE second half mistake cost Pool as they lost 1-0 at Oxenhope Recreation in a West Yorkshire League Division One encounter on Saturday.

In a match when Pool never looked in danger, their second half mistake gifted Oxenhope a penalty, which they duly dispatched.

Just before this, early in the second half, Pool forced the ball into the net from close range during a goalmouth scramble.

Despite Oxenhope accepting that they had gone behind and made no appeal, the referee awarded a free-kick for off-side.

The recreation ground pitch, generally unusable for most of the season was only just playable, cutting up very badly and not conducive to playing good football.

It was certainly not helping Pool, who, on the back of three excellent performances were unable to find their feet in the heavy conditions.

Having said that, Pool had enough chances to win the match but they were not clinical enough in front of goal.

The defeat leaves them third from bottom in Division One.

This Saturday Pool travel to fellow strugglers Rothwell for a match they really need to win.

Pool Reserves, despite a spirited performance, went down 7-2 at home to a strong Salts Reserves side.

Pool held their own for much of the match, but late goals gave them a heavier defeat than they deserved.

David Potts and Jordan Drake were on the scoresheet for Pool Reserves.
