ARCHIE Minto and Cameron Mander were City of Bradford’s only representatives at Sheffield's Ponds Forge for the high quality Swim England Winter National Championships meet and the competition was always going to be tough.

Having qualified for four events and swimming as a Junior (15 years and under) it was Burley-in-Wharfedale youngster Minto who swam to three personal best times and a club record.

His time of 58.85 seconds in the 100m butterfly event broke a club record which had stood since 1996 and placed him 26th in this highly competitive field.

His times of two minutes and 12.00 seconds in the 200m butterfly and 2.11.35 in the 200m backstroke were both personal bests as well. Minto also competed in the 200m individual medley.

Mander raced in the 100m breaststroke event and touched the wall in a highly creditable time of 1.10.73.

Both swimmers, who train with Andy Pearce and Sarah Fisher on Bradford Council’s Leisure Services Aquatics Competition Programme, can now look forward to a short Christmas break before training resumes in earnest in the New Year.
