A SMALL but elite bunch at Otley Athletics Club ran on Saturday in the Weeton Handicap, the penultimate race of this year's Eric Smith Trophy.
Maddie Delucchi ran strongly up the final incline to take her first handicap win with a time nearly four and a half minutes quicker than two years ago.
Liam Dunne (plus William in the buggy) overtook Tom Hannah just before the finish, but a mistaken start time by at least five seconds saw Tom take the 14 points for second. Despite his extra handicap Liam still recorded the fastest time of the day.
Bets are pretty much off for the 2018 handicap champion, with just the traditional Ken Dixon Christmas Handicap on December 23 to run.
Bob Payne has a 28.5 point lead over Hannah, but he race for the minor medals is still up for grabs as only three and a half points separates Hannah and David Cattanach. Andy Webster and Phil Robinson are also both in with a shout.
