BEN Rhydding Men played some stunning hockey to crush Wilmslow 7-1.

With less than five minutes gone, Rhydding stroked the ball around the park and Dave McCollum and George Gamble set up Will Musgrave who opened the scoring.

The second came from another series of brilliant connections, as Robert Ramsden and Callum Franks set up Matty Bairstow, who slotted clinically.

Two minutes into the second half, an aggressive press produced s link up from Max Helme to Musgrave to Ramsden, who slotted past the keeper to make it 3-0.

Loose marking in midfield let Wilmslow through and they gained a corner. Young Josh Hughes in goal had a remarkable debut and was able to get something on the first attempt but Wilmslow followed to get one back.

Rhydding replied with fine short corner strikes from Musgrave and Myles Locke to make it 5-1 before Callum Franks smashed in the sixth and Andrew Lorimer (pictured) unleashed one of his trademark reverse scorchers to conclude the affair at 7-1.

This Saturday the Men travel to Weetwood to play Leeds at 3.30pm.

Ben Rhydding Ladies continued their great run with a solid 2-0 win over Fylde Ladies.

With the score 0-0 at half-time it needed the Cordukes twins to deliver the goals to seal the win.

First up was Amy just five minutes into the second half before sister Beth was able to give the home side a two-goal lead with ten minutes to go.

This Saturday the Ladies travel to Sutton Coldfield in the League before they entertain local rivals Leeds in the first round of the England Hockey Cup on Sunday at 1.30pm.

Also at Ben Rhydding on Sunday at 1.30pm the Men’s Over 50s begin the defence of the Masters Cup that they won at the Lee Valley Stadium in May when they entertain Formby Masters.
