THREE local youngsters helped City of Bradford Swimming Club open their new season's account at the Yorkshire Swimming Association’s Winter Competition at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

Fresh from her success at Swim England National County Team Championships, 13-year-old Hermione Roe of Addingham struck gold in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and 100m freestyle and second in the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

Her time of 33.76 in the 50m breaststroke was a lifetime best, club record and qualified her for this year's Winter Nationals Meet. Her time of 27.46 in the 50m freestyle was also a club record.

She clocked 30.49 in the 50m butterfly to claim a bronze medal and was fourth in the 200m individual medley.

Other finalists were Burley-in-Wharfedale's Archie Minto, who gained a Winter Nationals qualifying time in the 200m individual medley, and Menston's George Smith.
