OTLEY Athletics Club were well represented at this year’s Yorkshire Marathon with the highlight being Scott Harrington’s annual trip to the podium.

Third place was Scott’s reward for a gutsy run in tough conditions where he kept pace with the eventual winner Paul Marteletti for the vast majority of the race before finishing in a remarkable 2:28:28.

Another impressive result for the Black and Whites was club stalwart Sara Elliott’s debut performance, smashing her pre-race target by finishing in 3:38:19 after a very well judged first marathon.

Six other members ran through the wind and the rain and their results were as follows; Andrew Wright 3:15:18, Chris Chambers 3:39:03, Lee Grumbell 4:09:30, Mary Hampshire 4:13:18, Rebecca Keinhorst 4:23:40 and Andrew Raynor in 4:34:56.

Otley AC also had four runners take part in the Rombalds Romp Fell Race near Ilkley.

Runners tackled the route despite the inclement weather, which was chilly with unrelenting rain.

Alisdair Mcleod of Leeds City Athletics Club won the race in 50.39 and Lucy Collins, of Calder Valley Fell Runners, was the first woman home and 16th in 1.03.36.

Liam Dunne was the first Otley runner to cross the line. He finished tenth with a time of 1.00.48.

Steve Robinson 39th in 1.11.32, Matt Podd 75th in 1.25.28 and John Dade 78th in 1.25.49

Otley runner Richard Smith made the 350-mile round trip to take part in the Beacon Race, an off-road race in South Worcestershire.

The Beacon Race, organised by Smith’s former running club Worcester AC, takes place on the picturesque Malvern Hills which overlook the

counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and a small area of Gloucestershire.

Conditions were mild, but very windy with gale force winds at the summit.

Smith finished the 6.6-mile race in 11th place, clocking a time of 50.34.
