DESPITE a wonder goal from Ryan Firth, Pool could find a late equaliser and lost 3-2 to Oxenhope in West Yorkshire League Division One action on Saturday.
Pool came into this match full of confidence following their emphatic County Cup win last week.
They got the best possible start when Ryan Firth gave the Oxenhope defence a ten yard start, but outpaced them all down the left.
The keeper had been drawn allowing him to fire a shot from a virtually impossible wide angle and inside the far post.
Pool continued to play some good football, but were unable to capitalise on two crosses, which tantalisingly close to being converted.
Meanwhile, Oxenhope were always dangerous going forward, a couple of point blank saves from keeper Andy Doey kept them out, until late in the half, when the defence were caught outnumbered twice in quick succession giving the visitors all the encouragement needed to complete the job and take a lead into the interval.
The second half was closely fought, even when Oxenhope increased their lead, Pool continued to battle.
When Kostas Katsamagkas pulled a goal back, it set up an exciting last ten minutes, but Pool were unable to find the equaliser.
In the Alliance Division Two, local rivals Ilkley Town Reserves beat Pool Reserves 5-3.
