AN Otley runner set a personal best in Hedgehog Half Marathon in North Lincolnshire on Sunday.

Joanna Hobson, running for Otley Athletics Club, shaved four minutes off her personal best and completed the half marathon, held at Normanby Hall Country Park, in 1.55.50. She finished 113th overall out of 390 finishers, but was fifth in the females veteran 55 category.

Eight Otley runners also took part in the Withins Skyline fell race at Haworth with Tom Pomfrett finishing 63rd in 52:34 and Rebecca Harper 65th in 52:56.

Times for other Otley runners were Louise Williams (55:22), Steve Robinson (55:48), Lizzie Irvine (57:50), Bob Baker (1:06:11), Don Buffham (1:11:33) and Antonio Cardinale (1:40:58).

For the second time in a few weeks, Airecentre Pacers ran into trouble in a race. Following the Fleetwood Half Marathon which sent athletes on an extra two mile loop, Nick Leathley running the Dalby Forest Marathon, found there were no marshals or route markers after the 20-mile point.

Nick struggled through the forest until they eventually found the route again and made it to the finish line. Despite running 27.9 miles overall Nick still managed 22nd place.

Paul Grindley had no such problems in the Kielder Half Marathon coming home in 01.41.37 and 86th overall.
