YARNBURY's 1st team had a free Saturday after Leodensian could not field a team for the Yorkshire Vase, however, Yarnbury Hornets were in action went down to 33-18 defeat against league leaders Sheffield Tigers in the Yorkshire Merit League.
Hosts Yarnbury defended ferociously against a strong National League second team, who were much bigger and stronger particularly in the first half up the slope.
The scrummage was a not contest against a big pack but Yarnbury took to their task and allowed Sheffield only two tries in the first half and managed a penalty before the break with a close in Danny Pound conversion.
The backs managed some good breaks down the left side with returning centre Tom O’Brien making good yards on several occasions.
The second half saw tries from winger Josh Batson and a converted try from O’Brien. Pound tucked in the conversion and a penalty to make the score 18-17 but Sheffield were too strong and finally denied the Hornets a losing bonus point.
Yarnbury's first team travel to Ripon in their next Yorkshire Two league match this Saturday.
