WITH Guiseley Rangers Under 12s adding the Garry Chappelow Memorial Trophy to their Challenge Cup success they returned to Yorkshire Junior League action against Dearne Valley Bulldogs on Saturday.

Guiseley needed two wins from their final four fixtures to seal the Division Two title.

Wins against Dewsbury Moor (34-14) and Emley Moor (16-0) were enough to guarantee the title came to Guiseley for the first time.

A further win against Castleford Panthers (22-12) brought them to their final week of league action.

Dearne Valley won the toss and played up the slope in the first half. The opening exchanges put Guiseley on top and they broke the deadlock with a try by prop forward Dale Flowers. Fergus McCormack added the conversion.

Guiseley used their pack well to help Evan Reyner, the supporting full back, score a well worked try. Alfie McNicholas kicked the conversion to put Guiseley 12-0 up.

From a scrum 15 metres from their own line, Guiseley's McEwan Peters used his pace to race clear for a try beneath the sticks. McNicholas converted to give Guiseley an 18-0 half-time lead.

The second half started disastrously for Guiseley with the ball going out on the full gifting possession to Dearne Valley, deep within the Guiseley half.

Some poor defensive work let Dearne Valley’s number 13 crash over the line. The conversion made it 18-6.

From another scrum, a well worked move ended with Reyer getting his second of the daym but McCormack missed the conversion.

The superior size of Dearne Valley with possession gifted by Guiseley led to the visitors' strong running number 20 scoring to make it 22-12.

Dearne Valley's number 13 then crashed over for his second try between the posts.

Dearne Valley now sensed they had the champion on the ropes and another try for the number 20 followed. Dearne Valley missed the conversion and the game was tied at 22-22.

Guiseley lifted their intensity lifted and pinned Dearne Valley deep in their own half. Guiseley piled on the pressure, but instead of going for the try they opted for the penalty kick which was converted by McCormack as Guiseley won 24-22.
