ILKLEY orienteer Tony Thornley rolled back the years and struck silver and gold at the British Championships in Bath last weekend.

The Sprint Finals were held at Bath University, a confusing area with several different building levels, which competitors found hard to interpret on a two dimensional map.

After winning his heat, Tony was pipped for the gold by just 25 seconds as Peter Gorvett from South Yorkshire took the crown.

The Middle Distance Finals were held the next day on a tricky former mining area in the Mendip Hills. Despite a couple of errors, Tony was able to turn the tables on his South Yorkshire rival, taking the gold by over a minute.

Airienteers next local event is at Golden Acre Park on October 13, with all welcome to attend.
