JEMIMA Elgood produced an impressive run for Ilkley Harriers, taking home the prize of first lady in the six-mile King’s Challenge Fell Race, which began in Silsden.

Her time of 52 minutes and nine seconds was good enough to secure her 32nd place overall, while Harriers trio Ben Sheppard (46:22), Steve Gott (46:23) and Michael Lomas (46:25) came home in ninth, 10th and 11th respectively.

One of the most successful Harriers in 2018 has been Jack Cummings, and he finished in 2nd place at the Arncliffe Gala Fell Race in Littondale.

His run of 11:25 was a quick one and he was unlucky to be beaten by the imperious Wharfedale runner Ted Mason, who completed the course in an extraordinary time of 10:39.

Ilkley's Iain Gibbons also took part, and came home in a creditable ninth place, completing the course in 12:35. Jonathan and Fiona Schneider were the other Harriers involved on what was a busy Saturday for them.

They competed in both the road race and the fell race at the gala. The former is around four miles long. It runs along the valley to Hawkswick, crosses the river and features an occasional short climb with some undulations.

That race began quite early, so the pair were able to enjoy some recovery time with tea and cake in the village hall before the start of the fell run, where Jonathan came 67th in 17:34 and Fiona finished 92nd in 23:18.

Both of those events followed their first run of the day, the 5k Parkrun in Skipton. Jonathan (21:56) crossed the line in 22nd, while Fiona (26:56) was 84th out of 191 runners.

Many Harriers also took the opportunity to try some Parkruns further afield this weekend. Dom Coy was the first to finish at Drumchapel in Scotland with his fine time of 17:42, while Stephen Coy came 29th there in 28:08.

Meanwhile, Richard Joel and Jean Sullivan were flying the Yorkshire flag in Limerick, Northern Ireland. The former crossed the line in sixth place, after recording a time of 20:06, with Sullivan finishing 28th in 24:31.

The peerless Geoff Howard recorded his fastest Parkrun time of 2018 at Fountains Abbey (21:11), which has moved him up five places to 12th in the UK rankings V70 age group.

Mark and Rebecca Mon-Williams both took part in that race too, finishing 26th and 61st with times of 19:57 and 22:09 respectively.

Finally, back in West Yorkshire, Michael Lomas came fourth at the Bradford Parkrun with a time of 18:45, while Rhys Jones was 17th in 20:26. Will Worboys (25:37) and Paula Reynier (27:00) also competed there.
