Guiseley 0 Chorley 2

GUISELEY fans will be hoping that they are not going to have to endure another barren August after their side suffered their second defeat of the new Vanarama National League North campaign, last night.

Two years ago they lost their first seven National League matches while they garnered just five points from the same period last season.

After wins over Bradford City and Bolton in pre-season there was an air of optimism ahead of the first home game, but the Lions failed to deliver.

Just as at Boston on Saturday, they didn't manage to score a goal and that will be a concern for joint managers Marcus Bignot and Russ O'Neill.

They brought giant striker Kayode Odejayi back and started well, but had little to show for their labours.

Defender Niall Heaton headed straight at goalkeeper Cameron Belford when well placed and Chorley soon punished the Lions.

Alex Newby drove home a cross in the 38th minute as Chorley looked to build on their opening day win over York City.

Guiseley looked laboured and many of their moves broke down before posing a threat to their opponents.

Scott Garner thought he had equalised when he headed in a Cliff Moyo cross but he was ruled to be offside.

Chorley wrapped up the points with Adam Blakeman's goal in the 72nd minute.
