BRADFORD ended their 42-year long wait for a Bradford Golf Union Team Championship trophy by winning with a degree of ease on home soil last Sunday, beating runners up Baildon by five shots.

Despite James Tate recording a 71, the hosts found themselves a shot behind their Baildon rivals after the first round. However George Grant's fine final round of 70 ensured a comeback victory.

Young Jack Laybourne was the other key member of the winning trio and his rounds of 73 and 74 proved vital. Bradford's final total was 439 (+13), comfortably winning over Baildon's 444 (+18).

Consistency proved key for the Bradford trio, with Tate and Grant both finishing the tournament on four-over par and Laybourne a shot further back.

In contrast, Baildon's James Firth shot a 71 and a 72 to finish one-over, but his teammates did not quite show the same quality on the day.

Poor Chris Green recorded a stunning effort of 66 for Cleckheaton in the first round, but his team could only finish third overall, 12 shots behind Bradford.

Another impressive individual effort saw Shipley's Daniel Thomas, who was crowned Bradford Open champion at the start of July, finish on three-over for the tournament as his side finished seventh.

Finally, spare a thought for poor Jack Lampkin. His one-over total was the joint-second best of the tournament behind Green's even-par effort, but his Bracken Ghyll side only managed ninth after poor scores elsewhere.
