Otley 28 Sheffield Tigers 17

OTLEY clawed back a 14-point deficit to run out comfortable winners against a spirited Tigers side.

The home team had the territory in the first ten minutes and missed a penalty which would have given them the lead.

Just before the quarter hour, a loose ball was picked up and James Broadley ran 40 metres to score in the corner for Tigers.

The visitors continued to pressurise, and camped on Otley’s 22 before Peter Swatkins kicked through and then dived on the ball to score. Former Otley stand-off Mark Ireland converted both tries.

Otley’s response was immediate, their backs combining to see Jack Mackie in at the corner, the conversion sliding the wrong side of the post.

Five minutes later Otley put a penalty into the corner and, having worked the ball in full back Tom Hodson scored.

Just before half-time Sheffield were caught offside and from the line-out the forwards shepherded Joe Graham over for a try.

Two Ireland penalties gave the Tigers the lead again, which were cancelled out by two Joe Rowntree penalties.

In the last ten minutes both sides vied for supremacy, a Tigers kick into the hosts’ 22 put Otley on the back foot.

Otley came out with the ball and made it to the halfway line when the visitors were penalised.

Quick thinking by Joe Graham got them to the 22, and with two minutes to go Ben Bell crashed to secure the game.
