Robin Hood Athletic 2 Pool 4

POOL gained a much-needed Premier Division victory to haul prevent themselves from being dragged into the relegation dogfight.

They were on top from the start, and were soon in front when Tom Fleming was brought down in the area and Neil Ebdon converted the resulting penalty.

Fleming then made it two by firing home from an awkward angle after making space for himself. Ebdon then produced a pile driver of a shot from distance, the ball hitting the roof of the net via the underside of the crossbar for his second and Pool's third goal.

Pool, to be honest could have doubled their score, but let Robin Hood off. It needed a couple of excellent saves from keeper Michael Tosney to keep the hosts out, then late in the game as Pool continued to push forward, Robin Hood scored twice in as many minutes to almost make a mockery of the match. Fortunately, this rekindled Pools determination, a fine move ending with substitute Jamie Algar forcing the ball home from close range to seal the points.

The previous Wednesday, Pool entertained Otley Town in a local derby which Town really needed to win.

When Nick Hewitt put Pool in front with a powerful header from a corner, the writing looked to be on the wall for Town. That said they could have scored twice in the opening minutes.

Pool failed to capitalise on their lion's share of the play, allowing Town back into the match, a header from close range by Joe Curie following a long throw in giving Town a share of the spoils.

Horbury Town Reserves 3 Pool Reserves 0

THE reserves are perilously close to the drop zone, this defeat at high flying Horbury not helping the situation. Injuries left them with a weakened side following a string of good performances.

When back to full strength their recent form suggests they will be able to gain the necessary results.
