Beeston St Anthony’s 1 Pool 1

THERE was nothing between the teams in this rehearsal for next Thursday’s West Riding County Challenge Cup semi-final at Woodlesford.

Beeston made the better start and gave the Pool defence plenty to think about.

Michael Tosney pulled off an excellent save from a well-placed free kick to prevent Beeston taking the lead.

Pool were well organised at the back and began to match Beeston’s determination to win the ball as they started to exert pressure.

They lost Neil Ebdon to injury but club captain Temilada Ajimoko, who had been given a place on the substitutes’ bench after arriving late from London, came on to play well in an unfamiliar striking role.

There was little to choose between the teams until Beeston took a clever free kick which led to the opening goal.

Pool’s response was immediate as Matthew Nebard took advantage of a slip by a defender to power past him, and fire home a superb shot for the equaliser.

Both teams had near misses in the second half but could not secure a winning goal.

POOL’S growing injury list is really starting to hurt. Lee Ingle was brought out of retirement and Redmond Bolton was drafted in for the relegation strugglers.

Leeds City showed no mercy for Pool as they romped to victory.

Pool will be hoping for better fortune in their remaining games as they look to beat the drop.
