Men's North Division One: Ben Rhydding 6 Harrogate 2

THIS was potentially a tricky derby but promotion-chasing Ben Rhydding displayed exemplary discipline and professionalism to claim a stylish and well-deserved victory.

The electric Matty Bairstow opened the scoring after just 90 seconds, following a period of excellent possession and build-up play, intelligent creativity from Ross McMilllan and genius ‘stunning’ of the ball by Max Helme allowed him to clinically finish.

Connor Dowley and Will Musgrave then combined for Helme to make it 2-0, and the pair repeated the dose for Helme to make a deft connection with a ball that was bouncing this time for 3-0.

Ben Rhydding's fourth goal was greeted with more joy as young debutant Will Tench first showed lightning reactions and then composure and speed of thought to lift the ball past the visitors' keeper.

Rhydding were relentless, with Neil Sugden and Danny Foster completely in control at the back in front of sharp goalkeeper Will Rutter, who deserved a clean sheet.

However, it was not to be as two well-executed but unusual spin routines from corners got Harrogate back into the game.

But further goals from Helme and Bairstow pushed Ben Rhydding into clear water again, and Elliot Dowley had the last word with another magnificent reverse goal after the umpire played an excellent advantage.
