Bridlington 22 Yarnbury 0

ALL the points came in the second half as Yarnbury’s hopes were washed away on their trip to the east coast.

The visitors had to reorganise before the game, with captain Oliver Cashman going into the back row, while Jarrod Huss took over at scrum half and Russ Gomersall came in to the second row.

And they suffered further disruption when their influential lock Ian Maycock had to be replaced at half-time with a leg injury when the scoreline was still blank.

The only forward replacement on the bench was prop John Dodgson and it meant Yarnbury had lost their main source of line-out ball.

The Horsforth side played into the wind in the first half and kept the determined home pack out time and time again with their resolute defensive play.

Both sides were reduced to 14 men in the opening ten minutes when Yarnbury’s Jimmy Cryan and the Bridlington flanker Alan Sutton were sent to the sin bin by referee Adam Robson.

Yarnbury were dictating the first-half play through a fine forward effort and the boot of stand-off Carl Paterson.

Bridlington’s forwards were twice penalised for killing the ball and Paterson kicked for touch.Twice Maycock, jumping at his customary No 2 in the line, collected the ball and the Yarnbury pack drove over the Bridlington try line. On each occasion, the ball was deemed to be held up by the referee.

Yarnbury got winger Ellis Gomersall away a couple of times but he was well shackled by the opposition defence. Centre Chris Moreton tackled and passed well on his debut before Yarnbury lost the influential Maycock.

The big Bridlington pack took advantage in the second half. Scrum half Otis Floyd gathered a loose ball at the back of a scrum and ran 40 metres to score a try.

The conversion was landed by stand-off Jack Arthur, who added a penalty soon after to establish a 10-0 lead.

The game went away from Yarnbury when winger Will Davies was put clear on a 40-yard run to the line from a ruck when Yarnbury felt their defenders had been obstructed.

Bridlington completed their scoring with a try from centre Ryan Girking, which Arthur converted.

The long journey home gave Yarnbury plenty of time to think about this Saturday’s tough home test against leaders Doncaster Phoenix.
