DAVID Beckham step aside. Guiseley AFC's footballing twins Ben and Tom Wilkinson are set to have trials with LA Galaxy the club the Real Madrid superstar is set to join.

No multi million pound deal for the 18 year-old Menston St Mary's School pair though, they are having to fund their own trip to California to take up the offer of a trial.

The lads filled in an application for a trial at LA Galaxy online and were surprised when they were contacted and offered a chance to impress the Americans.

Goalkeeper Ben and midfielder or full-back Tom will make the trip by flying from Leeds-Bradford Airport to Amsterdam and then on to Memphis and eventually Los Angeles.

The first trial takes place on Saturday, February 9, and if successful they will go through to the second trial the next day before returning home to the UK.

The lads, who had both decided to go to Leeds University next autumn, are hoping to impress the Americans and be offered a place at the club where Beckham is set to make his mark.

If that happens they will explore the possibility of gaining admittance to an American university.

The lads were brought up in Burley-in-Wharfedale and Otley before moving to live at Oxenhope.

They have played for Guiseley AFC's U-16 and U-17 teams before progressing into the U-19 side in the Northern Youth Alliance. Both have also played for the Guiseley club's Reserve team.

This season Ben has been gaining experience of senior football by playing in goal for Ilkley AFC in the West Yorkshire League.
